Wasim Akram became the highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket

On 24 August 1994, Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram made history against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He began the match level with India’s Kapil Dev on 251 ODI wickets, then surpassed him by dismissing Sanath Jayasuriya with his first ball. Akram took three wickets as Pakistan won by 27 runs, defending 187 and bowling Sri Lanka out for 160. Pakistan also won the five-match series 4–1.
