The Earthquake That Shook a City’s Soul
In the early hours of 31 May 1935 exactly at 3:03 AM, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Quetta, turning the city into rubble in just 45 seconds.
Nearly 90% of the city was destroyed. Flames burst from the ground, the sky filled with dust and screams. 35,000 to 60,000 lives were lost—entire families buried in mass graves.
Despite the devastation, local volunteers and the British Indian Army acted swiftly—setting up relief camps and emergency hospitals within days.
91 years later, we remember the lives lost and honor the resilience of those who survived.
Quetta rose from the ruins—and stands today as a symbol of strength and remembrance.
