Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, in a suicide bombing at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, during a political campaign rally. The attack, which also killed 14 others, was carried out by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
