OpenAI Adds Apple Health to ChatGPT
More than 300 million people use ChatGPT weekly to answer health questions, from interpreting test results to preparing for doctor's appointments. This new feature aims to unify disparate data stored across various apps and patient portals. With user consent, ChatGPT can compare new test results with previous ones, summarize changes since the last doctor's appointment, and analyze the relationship between sleep, physical activity, and overall well-being.
To improve the model's performance in healthcare, specialized training is used. The GPT-5.5 Instant model, available to free users, has demonstrated improvements in recognizing situations requiring emergency care. Paid subscribers are offered the GPT-5.6 Sol model, which is better at handling complex tasks that require large data sets and balanced judgment. Hundreds of doctors from around the world participated in the performance evaluation.
The feature is integrated into the ChatGPT interface. By default, the system requests permission before using health data, but users can configure automatic access.
Connected medical data and conversations involving it are not used to train AI models or for ad targeting. All conversations are encrypted, and health data is provided with additional protection. Users can disable access at any time, after which the information is deleted from OpenAI systems within 30 days.
The feature is rolling out in stages to users in the US aged 18 and over on the web and in the iOS app.
